Setting the floor plan's scale
A floor plan's scale lets ownMap estimate distances and route durations. It is set from the map's editing canvas, in a Scale Calibration panel, by entering the real-world length of a distance you know on the plan (for example, a 10-meter corridor).
This panel applies to floor plans imported as an image. It is only offered when geolocation is turned off on the map, which is the default for "building" maps. If geolocation is turned on, the plan's GPS calibration is offered instead (never both at once), and the scale is derived automatically from the two GPS points.
Calibrating the scale
- From the editing canvas, open the calibration panel with the "Set the plan's scale" button. Once the scale is set, this button reads "Plan scale: set".
- Place points 1 and 2 on the plan by dragging and dropping them, at the two ends of a distance whose real-world length you know (each point's "View" button recenters the view on it).
- Enter the real-world length between the points, in meters (for example 12.5).
- Click "Save". The "Reset" button lets you start over.
The two points and the length you entered are kept: when you reopen the panel, your calibration is exactly as you left it, so you can fine-tune it without starting again.
Copying the calibration from another floor
If several floor plans on your map share the same scale (the floors of a single building, for example), use the "Copy calibration from another floor" list and the "Copy" button to reuse the calibration of a plan that is already calibrated, instead of redoing it.
This calibration is only used to set distances on the floor plan. It is different from circulation axes, which are used to define the paths followed during routing (see Routing).
