Adding floor plans

Once your map is created, you need to add your floor plans (the map background, generally one per building floor).

The floor plan is imported as an image (JPG or PNG, 1.5 MB maximum). This image serves as the map background, on which locations, zones and paths will then be positioned.

Opening the Floor plans panel​

The "Floor plans" panel is docked onto your map's editing canvas. It is shown automatically when the map is created, and can be reopened at any time from the "View" dropdown menu ("Floor plans list" checkbox).

Creating a floor plan​

From the "Floor plans" panel, click "New floor plan". The floor plan is then configured in a "Floor plan settings" panel, docked onto the canvas:

  • a short name for your floor plan (25 characters maximum);
  • a long name, optional;
  • the floor level corresponding to your floor plan;
  • the image file of your floor plan.

As with the map, the short name is used to create a reference used in links to the floor plan (short name in lowercase, without accents, special characters replaced with dashes; a number is appended in case of a duplicate).

The floor plan's reference stays the same even if you later change the short name, so as not to break links you have already shared.

Until an image has been imported for a floor plan, it shows a "Missing image" badge in the list — clicking this badge launches the image import directly.

Default floor plan​

Once a floor plan has been added, an extra option appears in "Floor plan settings": default floor plan. It lets you designate the floor plan that opens by default when your map is opened — generally the one corresponding to the building's main entrance.

Calibrating the floor plan​

An image floor plan can be calibrated in two ways, depending on whether geolocation is turned on for the map (only one of the two is offered at a time):

  • geolocation turned off (the default for "building" maps): scale calibration, by entering the real-world distance between two points on the plan (see Setting the floor plan's scale);
  • geolocation turned on: GPS calibration, by placing two points of the plan on real-world coordinates, which also lets visitors be located on the plan.

How this information is used​

  • The floor level is used to sort floor plans in the level selector.
  • The short name is displayed in the level selector.
  • The long name (or the short name, if not set) is displayed in the information panel.

You can add your floor plans immediately or over time. Next, it will be time to add locations on your floor plan(s).
