Concepts and prerequisites
Before starting to create your map, it's worth knowing the elements it is made of.
Create a map
From "My maps", click the "New ownMap map" button to start a new map. A 4-step wizard guides you.
Adding floor plans
Once your map is created, you need to add your floor plans (the map background, generally one per building floor).
Setting the floor plan's scale
A floor plan's scale lets ownMap estimate distances and route durations. It is set from the map's editing canvas, in a Scale Calibration panel, by entering the real-world length of a distance you know on the plan (for example, a 10-meter corridor).
Adding locations (points of interest)
A location (POI) represents a precise place on the floor plan: a room, an office, an entrance, a service point, etc.
Customizing POI types and icons
This feature is not yet available in the application. This page will be completed once it goes live.
Adding zones
A zone lets you delimit an area on the floor plan (a department, a particular space) rather than a single point. It is created and edited the same way as a location, by drawing its outline on the floor plan.
Managing the map's list of objects
A side panel, "Objects on the map", lists all the locations, zones and axes on the map. It lets you quickly find an existing object, edit it, or delete it, without having to find it visually on the floor plan.
Publishing a map
A map is only visible to visitors once it has been published. Before publication, only the manager can view and edit it in order to prepare it: importing the floor plan, adding locations, checking the scale and the routing.
Statistics
Each map has a usage analytics dashboard, accessible from the map's "Statistics" tab.
Sharing a map
The Premium plan lets you hand over some or all of the administration of a map to other people, without sharing your account credentials.
